Where is the so called “Mexican Silicon Valley” ?
The United States has authorized $280 billion to subsidize computer chip companies and invest in technology research for keeping America strong and innovative.
The first concern is that lots of computer chips are basic like those used for the computer memory or brains in appliances
Second it’s important for America to preserve expertise in designing and building advanced computer chips.
Third, the potential vulnerability of Taiwan, home to TSMC, which makes build-to-order chips for many companies including Apple.
While manufacturers of laptops, white goods, and other devices have also cut production because of semiconductor shortages, the repercussions in the automotive industry have been more severe.
This is where Mexico enters the scene and that’s where my question is. Where did the Mexican Silicon Valley stay? Guadalajara had at some point world-class plants such as Intel, HP and others that manufactured Technology Chips. But with the passage of time they migrated to the high demand for chips for the automotive sector.
The problem is that the automotive industry must follow stringent safety requirements that necessitate the use of specifically validated semiconductors and defined production facilities along the complete value chain.
